From careful energy planning. To powering Spanish supermarkets. To delivering quality produce.
Enabling Alimerka to forecast and effectively manage energy costs through a long term PPA.
The customer鈥
Alimerka, a leading supermarket chain and distributor in the north of Spain鈥.
The challenge鈥
To ensure the delivery of quality products at the best prices for its customers, Alimerka needed a long-term power supply strategy to effectively plan for and manage operational costs tied to their energy use. 鈥
The solution鈥
Shell Energy worked together with Alimerka to develop a 10-year power supply agreement which provides them with long-term visibility of their energy costs. The solution enables Alimerka to more confidently manage the financial risks associated with price volatility which means they can more effectively plan and focus on their core business, supporting local economies by offering locally sourced, high-quality products produced with low carbon operations and providing employment opportunities. 鈥
"Central to Alimerka鈥檚 business model is providing social and environmental benefits to the communities in which we operate, always offering top quality products and a strong commitment to local suppliers. Essential to ensuring we can continue to deliver on our commitments and also implement improvements is having the ability to plan efficiently. Having a clear view of our energy costs over the longer term gives us the confidence to plan effectively, allocating the right resources to meet our long-term business and sustainability ambitions."
Omar Gomez, Chief Financial Officer, Alimerka

Shell Energy鈥檚 renewable electricity is supplied by the National Grid and certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates, matching electricity bought with the equivalent amount from 100% renewable sources.
The purchase of REGO certificates can demonstrate a business鈥 appetite to invest in renewable energy. It is important to note, that when renewable energy is distributed through the grid, it is mixed with energy from non-renewable sources.
