Renewable energy generation

Renewable resources offer promising solutions to meet the world鈥檚 growing need for energy while keeping carbon emissions low. There are a variety of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydro and biomass that produce electricity for Shell Energy to aggregate, trade, or market directly to customers.

Providing our customers with more electricity

Today, Shell has around 3.2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable generation capacity in operation, 3.5 GW under construction/contract and around 34.6 GW of potential capacity in our pipeline, ranging from utility-scale solar through to offshore wind projects and integrated hydrogen projects.

We complement our experience, technology and project development activities through acquisitions and partnerships with innovative renewable energy companies that offer unique portfolio positions, talent and deeper market expertise.

Shell鈥檚 European renewable generation capacity is planned to grow over the coming years. Today, we have around 1.7 GW of generation capacity in operation and under construction/contract and around 7.9 GW of potential capacity in our pipeline, ranging from utility-scale solar through to innovative floating wind and integrated wind to hydrogen projects.*

Solar power

Solar power

Solar is the fastest growing and lowest cost renewable energy source available today. By 2050, it could be the single largest source of electricity globally according to the International Energy Agency.

Solar is expected to play a key role in decarbonising Shell鈥檚 own operations and in providing cleaner energy for our customers.

Wind power

Wind power

The rapid development of onshore and offshore wind is needed to provide more renewable power and decarbonise industries at scale.

Shell made its first move into the wind business more than 20 years ago. In 2000, we were part of a consortium that installed the first offshore wind turbine in 麻豆传媒 waters and, in 2001, Shell invested in onshore wind in the USA.
