Shell LNG Marketing & Trading
Shell LNG Marketing & Trading (SLMT) is the face to customers for Shell鈥檚 global liquefied natural gas (LNG) business.
Since the beginning of the industry over 60 years ago, Shell has become one of the world鈥檚 leading LNG suppliers through managing the purchase and sale of cargoes from Shell鈥檚 own portfolio of liquefaction assets and and third party supply. In 2024, SLMT delivered nearly 65 million tonnes of LNG to over 30 countries across the globe.
Shell is involved in every stage of the LNG value chain: from finding the fields and extracting the gas to liquefaction, shipping, regasification and distributing it to customers. Shell has more than 40 million tonnes of capacity in 14 operating and under construction liquefaction facilities across supply basins. We are also one of the world鈥檚 largest LNG shipping operators, managing and operating nearly 10% of global LNG fleet.
Our presence and investments across the LNG value chain enable SLMT to offer reliability of supply and greater flexibility in developing bespoke customer solutions and delivering LNG cargoes whenever and wherever they are needed.
LNG with carbon offsets
To decarbonise LNG, we take a hierarchical 鈥渁void, reduce and then compensate鈥 approach. This involves avoiding emissions where possible, reducing emissions where they cannot be avoided, and offsetting emissions when they cannot be avoided or reduced. Lower emission LNG production, methane management and using carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies can lower emissions along the value chain. While these technologies develop at scale, using high-quality nature-based offsets to compensate for emissions along the LNG value chain is one way to address emissions without delay.
Shell has been working with customers to deliver LNG cargoes with offsets since 2019. We are developing offers for customers aligned with the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification and Greenhouse Gas Neutral Framework. It was launched in 2021 to promote a transparent practice to declare GHG neutral cargoes through an independently verified cargo statement which sets out both emissions and offsets. In line with this, we have now received certification of the international standard PAS2060:2014 (specification for the demonstration of PAS2060 carbon neutrality).

Note: LNG cargoes that meet the PAS2060 standard of GHG neutrality are marketed by Shell as GIIGNL framework-aligned GHG Neutral LNG cargoes. Any further sale of gas from these cargoes can only be marketed using the same terminology.

LNG for shipping
We are also investing in the marine and heavy-duty road transport sector to provide customers with LNG as a cost-competitive and cleaner burning transport fuel.
We believe that natural gas could form a bigger part of the transport energy mix as a lower-carbon fuel. To find out more please click here:

Supporting new market development
As one of the world鈥檚 leading suppliers of LNG, we continue to support countries as they develop LNG import facilities and connect to the global gas market.
