Site size in hectares | 688 |
Site size in acres | 1700 |
Principal activities | Scotford is a joint chemicals/refining site, with an adjoining bitumen upgrader. The Shell facility produces the full range of fuels, synthetic crudes and sulfur for the Western Canadian market. A portion of the CO鈧 generated by the upgrading facility is captured and stored sub-surface. The site also manufactures styrene monomer and monoethylene glycol (MEG). Styrene monomer is sold to customers in North America for the manufacture of a variety of commercial and consumer products such as cassette/CD cases, food containers, home insulation, safety helmets and car interiors. Monoethylene glycol is primarily sold to customers in North America for use in making products such as polyester fibres, plastic drinking bottles, adhesives and inks. The site is highly integrated from the bitumen upgrading units, through the oil products refining units and finally, the chemicals products units. |

Principal activities | 鈻 Shell Jurong Island is made up of several chemical manufacturing assets that produce: Ethylene oxide (which is converted into ethylene glycols and high-purity ethylene oxide) and ethoxylates. These products are used in applications such as polyester fibres, polyester resins and surfactants. Styrene monomer is the starting material for plastics such as polystyrene, expandable polystyrene and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene. The main applications for these products are in the automotive, electrical, appliances and packaging industries. Propylene oxide, which is used in a wide range of chemical derivatives including polyols, propylene glycols (namely monopropylene glycol and dipropylene glycol), glycol ether solvents and flame retardants. Polyols, the main derivative of propylene oxide, which are used primarily to produce polyurethane foams, coatings, elastomers, adhesives and sealants. |
