Partnerships built to last

Hanson

Shell Bitumen worked with British paving contractor Hanson on the resurfacing of the runway at Carlisle Lake District Airport. Together we tested and approved two versions of the surface and binder course design mixes for the project, which also included supplying 8,000 tonnes of standard heavy-duty binder.

Buntara

Our partnership with bitumen distributor Buntara goes back to 2007 and our Cariphalte© range is used in Indonesia on major road, highway and airport projects, including recent work on Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, where Shell Cariphalte© PG76 Fuelsafe was chosen to meet stringent project requirements.

CEMEX

Our partnership with building materials company CEMEX in the 鶹ý was vital in the development of our latest innovation Shell Bitumen FreshAir©. The new product was trialled at CEMEX’s asphalt plant and in three nearby locations to help monitor long-term effectiveness, with both partners pleased with the results.

Kemna Bau West

Together with asphalt producers Kemna Bau West, Shell Bitumen supplied the asphalt for the Cologne ring-road system, widening the road to help with traffic and achieving an impressive reduction in noise levels through the use of open pore asphalt.

Studio Dromo

Shell Bitumen has a longstanding relationship with racetrack designers Studio Dromo, which proved a vital ingredient when the Silverstone Circuit needed resurfacing in 2018. Alongside world-class designer Jarno Zafelli, we produced a tougher track that would ensure water could permeate through the surface for proper drainage.

Installing a fast-turnaround runway in the Philippines

It took a collaborative effort from multiple teams to achieve the resurfacing of Mactan Cebu International Airport’s runway. Supply efficiency was key as the airport wanted to minimise disruption, so a large number of bitutainers were installed on site during production. The Shell Bitumen team worked on the logistics alongside the customer and provided technical support throughout.
