Women at Shell take action to break down gender barriers
Dive into stories of women who help create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of gender.
Shell has come a long way when it comes to representation of women, but we must do more. We have an ongoing focus on attracting and developing women because they continue to be under-represented in parts of our organisation. We create safe spaces for sharing experiences, support over 30 gender-focused employee resource groups worldwide, and foster global allyship through initiatives like Shell Global Allies for Gender Equity (enGAGE).
This commitment is reflected in the inspiring stories of women across our global operations. Here, we highlight the journeys of five remarkable female Shell employees from different businesses and locations who take action to break down barriers to gender equity.

Danni, Senior Engineer Houston, USA
鈥淎t the Shell Technology Center in Houston where I鈥檓 based, Employee Resource Groups (ERG) are a very vibrant community. I personally have served in Women Adding Value Everywhere (WAVE) in various roles such as Chapter President, championing women in the industry. To me it is a great way to give back to the community and help Shell continue to be a leader in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I).
I love the diversity here both professionally and from a culture perspective. For me, Shell is one of the most progressive and diverse companies to work for, and it has been a catalyst for my growth. I'm proud to tell people that I work for Shell.鈥

Patricia, Loyalty Operations Implementer London, 麻豆传媒
鈥淚 helped set up the Menopause Cafe, a virtual space to share thoughts and experiences on menopause. We now have over 400 members in the 麻豆传媒. Before, the subject of menopause felt taboo 鈥 nobody talked about it. Yet over half of Shell鈥檚 female workforce in the 麻豆传媒 is over 40. Our message? You are not alone. We brought in speakers to spread awareness and talk about managing symptoms and the options available and their impact on society.
Shell has really supported me through this time. Through the BUPA Menopause plan 鈥 part of our employee package 鈥 I had a trial of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). It was so straightforward to access. Before I received the support, I was exhausted, suffered from anxiety and wasn鈥檛 sleeping. Every task at work was hard. Now, I struggle less, sleep better, and feel happier and healthier.鈥

Jacqui, Asset Support Lead Queensland, Australia
鈥淪hell helps me feel like I belong at work. When contributing to developing solutions, the culture at Shell has allowed me to grow confidence, which has seen me thrive鈥. Jacqui now tries to find ways to pay it forward. 鈥淚 am passionate about women participating in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), one of the best things we can do is share our career stories with school and university students鈥, which she has done at local science and careers fairs. 鈥淭hese young people will be at the forefront of the energy transition.鈥

Maja, Head of Country-by-Country Reporting Krakow, Poland
鈥淥utside of my job responsibilities, I am also a member of the gender balance leadership network. We鈥檙e all about making Shell a great place for women to succeed, and although the times are changing, we still don鈥檛 see that happening at all companies. It鈥檚 about having the chances and recognising the people, regardless of their gender or ethnicity.
If you just take a look around Shell, there are so many great female role models who have successful careers. Both my line manager and my associate Transfer Pricing manager are women, and without them I would not be the leader I am today.鈥

Jessica, Integrated Planning and Access Manager Queensland, Australia
鈥淏efore joining Shell, I would be the only female in the room where I felt the need to act like the boys to fit in and normalise a certain behaviour.鈥
Through her early experiences out on the field, Jessica has developed a strong desire to work towards improving the participation of women in the workforce and making spaces more inclusive for them. As a member of Shell鈥檚 Respect Committee, Jessica actively supported the first Respect Week across Shell鈥檚 operational sites. 鈥淚 feel proud and privileged to be a part of the Shell culture. As I progress in my leadership journey, I am driven to continue making women feel confident, so they don鈥檛 face what I did at work before I joined Shell.鈥
