As a technical graduate, you鈥檒l embark on a three-year training programme that offers talented individuals a comprehensive introduction to various areas of Shell鈥檚 business and operations within the Technical area of the Shell Graduate Programme. Materials and Corrosion Engineering

In Shell, the Materials Engineering is part of a greater Mechanical discipline team within the Discipline Engineering. Working alongside Pipeline, Mechanical Static, Inspection Engineers and Production Chemists, you鈥檒l define the material of construction, develop and witness the quality controls requirements during fabrication, installation and commissioning of process equipment. During its operational life, you鈥檒l verify the asset integrity by ensuring potential hazards are inspected for, maintained, and that critical elements are functioning to prevent process safety hazards, long downtimes or delays in operational activity

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Gate-keeping on available/applied metallic/non-metallic materials of construction and degradation mechanisms for the upstream/downstream business
  • Materials selection and technical advice for projects, operations, modifications and maintenance
  • Welding and other joining technologies
  • Fitness for service assessments against a range of degradation mechanisms
  • Refractories, Linings and Coatings
  • Prediction, modelling and mitigation of materials degradation
  • Corrosion mitigation (inhibition, cathodic protection (CP), corrosion under insulation (CUI) etc.)
  • You鈥檒l join as a Materials and Corrosion Trainee and work to develop a professional expertise in your chosen area.

Shell is a corporate partner of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and encourages engineers to register and get the Chartered Engineer (CEng) accreditation.

Your background

The Materials and Corrosion Engineer may have a degree in Chemical, Chemistry, Materials, Science or a Physics background. Experience in Project Management would be desirable with a keenness to show drive, solve complex problems and the ability work independently.
