The advancements in engine technology to drive improvements in engine efficiency and reductions in emissions have resulted in the introduction of more complex, precisely engineered systems. These systems can be more sensitive to deposit build-up – including on and inside fuel injectors, and in critical parts of the exhaust after-treatment like the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system – which can cause issues such as worsening fuel efficiency, power loss and reduced vehicle reliability.

Shell’s fuel innovation is helping to turn the tide and at the centre of this progress lies a redefinition of what diesel fuel is capable of, especially when it comes to protecting critical engine components and improving engine performance.

New Shell FuelSave Diesel improves fuel economy by up to 3.75%, by removing performance-robbing injector deposits.

It is proven in industry standard and proprietary tests to be effective in both older and newer engines, delivering a clean-up effect from the very first tankful, and a keep-clean effect that supports engine cleanliness over the long term.

Deeper cleaning

After just one tankful, the new formulation helps to clean up fuel Injector Nozzle Deposits (INDs) and Internal Diesel Injector Deposits (IDIDs). 3

Clean, healthy injectors mean optimum combustion, so your engine can maintain balance and work as it was designed – efficiently and reliably. This helps to ensure a smooth engine start, reduces engine noise and vibration for optimum driveability.

New Shell FuelSave Diesel improves engine efficiency and provides more load-pulling power by cleaning and protecting key fuel system components from performance-robbing deposits. This new formulation has been shown to recover 83% of power lost due to deposit accumulation. 4

Reliable engine performance

Designed to help keep your EGR system clean, our new formulation contains a combustion improver to help control deposits 5. Combined benefits of EGR deposit protection and injector cleaning help to protect against deposit build-up in EGR systems and fuel injectors which can improve vehicle reliability. In doing so, it can even help to reduce the size of your backup vehicle parc.

Improved anti-foam performance

Because diesel has a natural tendency to produce foam – which takes up tank space and slows down the refuelling process. 6

The anti-foaming agent in our new formulation of Shell FuelSave Diesel reduces refuelling time, so this can free up time for more operating hours, all the while lessening the risk of spillage.

Corrosion protection

While fuels may not be naturally corrosive, rust can form on metal parts when exposed to water and oxygen. Fortunately, a corrosion inhibitor can help, by repelling water and protecting against corrosion.

In this way, the new Shell FuelSave Diesel helps operators achieve lower maintenance costs and reduce the risk of breakdown.  

Improved fuel stability

As use of biocomponents in diesel fuel increases, so can the risk of fuel degradation during storage.

New Shell FuelSave Diesel helps improve the stability of fuels up to B30, and by maintaining fuel quality for longer it can help operators to reduce their total cost of ownership. 6

Easier housekeeping

For all diesel fuels but for particularly high-bio fuels, there is a risk of microbial growth occurring when water is present and this can cause issues such as filter blocking.

Our new formulation contains a dehazer to separate water from your fuel for easier removal to help maintain the fuel’s condition during storage. 6

New Shell FuelSave Diesel

For Shell, fuels research and development (R&D) is an ongoing process, that helps us to ensure our product technology meets the evolving needs of our customers and their vehicles. With this in mind, the new Shell FuelSave Diesel has been developed for both efficiency and protection.

The new formulation has undergone extensive testing, including more than 8,000 hours in bench engine and chassis dynamometer tests and over 200,000km of driving on test tracks and roads. We test in our own laboratories and engine & vehicle testing facilities with expert independent test houses.
