Technical features
Fuel oil never burns completely and, with time, the build-up of deposits can be detrimental. Equipment can become less reliable, resulting in higher levels of waste, efficiency loss, unplanned shutdowns and more frequent maintenance.
To overcome these problems, Shell scientists have developed Shell Fuel Oil Plus and Shell Fuel Oil Extra. Their special formulation includes:
- A 鈥榢eep clean鈥� component to help fight sludge and deposit formation in fuel storage tanks and fuel systems.
- A combustion improver to help promote faster and more complete fuel combustion, helping to reduce particulate emissions and black smoke.
- A higher estimated cetane number (ECN) than regular fuel oil, which promotes faster ignition and higher fuel efficiency.
This can help the fuel system, boiler or low-speed engine, and flue gas system to run more reliably and efficiently, while reducing environmental impact without the need for equipment modification.
