A cleaner-burning alternative
Creating an environment with less harmful emissions

Shell GTL Fuel
Growing commercial businesses are under increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact. With local emission regulations tightening, operators are looking for immediate solutions to tackle air pollutions.
Shell GTL (gas-to-liquids) Fuel is an alternative to conventional diesel derived from natural gas, which burns more cleanly than conventional crude oil-based diesel for fewer harmful local emissions. This helps to protect the health of workers and nearby communities.
Shell GTL Fuel is FAME free (fatty acid methyl ester), has excellent low-temperature properties, and can be blended in any ratio with HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oils) for use in unmodified diesel engines.
No additional investment is needed. Shell GTL Fuel is a drop-in1 solution that can be used in existing diesel engines without the need for modifications, new infrastructure, or vehicle investment. Shell GTL Fuel is classified as a paraffinic fuel, standardised in Europe within the EN 15940 specification.
Our customers are from various industry sectors including Public & Commercial Transportation, Agricultural Business, Inland Marine, Construction & Mining, Ski Resorts, Hospitals & Healthcare (Power Generators), and more. Nearshore and inland marine vessels benefit from Shell GTL Fuel

Technical features
- Has been classified as readily biodegradable and non-toxic.
- Can help reduce local emissions of regulated pollutants including nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), and unburnt hydrocarbons (HC鈥檚) compared with conventional diesel2.
- Can reduce noise levels in some engines due to its more uniform combustion.
- Provides better starting performance than conventional diesel in cold conditions due to its higher cetane number.

Customer success stories
With more than 30 ships and 160 employees welcoming 1.5 million passengers across Bavaria every year, Bavarian Lakes has used Shell GTL Fuel to significantly reduce the emission of pollutants in its daily operations. Customers and staff have also experienced the benefits of a reduction in smoke and noise levels.

What our customers say
Roel Wachelder, Chemelot Manager at DB Schenker, GermanyThe biggest advantage of Shell GTL Fuel to us is that it burns visibly cleaner than the regular diesel we used before. In two of our modern engines, we have measured a soot reduction of up to 60% and in the older engines even up to 95%!*

2The local emissions benefit of paraffinic fuels vs. ordinary diesel varies depending on a variety of factors. These include 鈥 but are not limited to 鈥 engine emissions level, after-treatment system, engine manufacturer, age, injection timing, and driving style. The numbers provided above are based on actual emissions testing data. On a case-by-case basis, actual emission benefits can be higher or lower than those stated above, however, the intention is to give a realistic indication of achievable benefits.
