Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) GMP

Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) GMP is a specialist grade within our alcohols range of oxygenated chemical solvents. Being produced according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for pharmaceutical excipients, it has very high purity and can be used in a wide range of pharmaceutical, medical and food contact applications.

Product overview

Isopropyl alcohol is is a clear, colourless liquid with a mild odour. It is a versatile and effective solvent being miscible in water, alcohols and other solvents, and will dissolve many types of organic substances including cellulose, oils, gums as well as natural resins.

IPA GMP can be used in the preparation of a number of pharmaceutical products such as medicinal tablets, as well as in disinfectants, sterilisers and skin creams. It may be used as a rubbing alcohol or surgical spirit in hand disinfectants.

GMP guidelines were developed in order to guarantee the quality of finished pharmaceuticals as well as both the active and non-active (excipient) chemicals used in their manufacture. GMP standards require a quality control system that covers the manufacturing, storage, supply and distribution of product destined for these applications. Control and traceability is put in place throughout the supply chain to ensure GMP compliance.

GMP quality control

Good Manufacturing Practice

The introduction of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for IPA required physical changes to be made at our manufacturing facility in the Netherlands, to eliminate the risk of contamination.

The extensive quality data collected for this product can be included in additional documentation provided with each delivery, while the product鈥檚 GMP status is also identified on the certificate of analysis.

Dedicated road tankers are used to transport IPA-GMP鹿 so there is no potential for product mix-ups and no need for cleaning between deliveries, which further reduces the risk of contamination.

To maintain the integrity and traceability of the product, quality measures are also in place while the product is en route.

The implementation of the GMP system has required a major training programme for plant, sales and customer service staff, as well as hauliers. Similar training can be provided to customers to ensure they fully understand the GMP requirements and have the appropriate measures for product reception in place.
