Liquefied natural gas

LNG Technology

Shell has been a pioneer in liquefied natural gas (LNG) for more than 50 years. We continued to innovate and improve the technology behind LNG. Our latest innovation is Prelude FLNG, the world鈥檚 largest floating LNG production facility, which will access gas resources too challenging to reach from land.

Maximising Value in Complex Markets

As the complexities of the global gas market increase, project owners can benefit from experienced partners who know how to maximise value from the most technically challenging projects. Shell Catalysts & Technologies can support them in maximising the value of gas resources and lower the cost of bringing them to the global LNG market.

Shell owns/or is involved with more than 30% of the global LNG capacity.

Shell operates LNG plants adopting a broad range of technologies from both Shell and other providers. Since over a decade, the Sakhalin LNG plant has been successfully running on Shell Dual Mixed Refrigerant Technology (DMR), which maximises LNG production in challenging ambient conditions still optimising safety, efficiency, heat integration, plot space, CO2 emissions and operability. This is why DMR has been the technology of choice for Prelude, the world鈥檚 largest floating LNG production facility, and for LNG Canada.

All Shell designed plants leverage seamless integration between the liquefaction section and Shell gas processing technology, bringing benefits in terms of CapEX, efficiency and operability.

Shell Catalysts and Technologies can bring Shell`s 50 years of LNG experience to project owners and developers to ensure successful new projects.

Our LNG Technology is backed up by our decades of owner-operator experience.
