Faster refuelling for new generations of aircraft
From the 1930s aircraft grew ever larger and flew further to meet the growing demand for flight. Shell Aviation kept pace by developing high capacity refuelling trucks, culminating in a vehicle capable of refuelling the 747 Jumbo Jet.

The rise of the hydrant
In the 1950s, Shell Aviation pioneered the development of the underground hydrant system to bring great efficiency and safety to aircraft refuelling. By 1957 Shell had installed over 100 hydrants at airports across the world.
